3 magical things that happened to me this month

as an astrologer

I’m obsessed with milky tran’s “3 adult things that happened to me this week, as an adult” series on IG. So here’s a riff, a homage.

1. I channeled someone’s plants in a natal chart reading. They had a lot to say about care and love - I thought it was very sweet and my client was overjoyed to hear from them. This isn’t the first time plants have come through in a reading, but each time it feels refreshing. The way they come through and communicate is soft, through a lot of light and visuals, and they have a lot to say about water quality!
   
   I’ve channeled people, plants, animals, but not a bug yet. Who’s taking care of a snail and wants a reading??

   This also makes me a little stressed out about my past issues with being a terrible plant parent - sorry!

2. I was teaching my astro level 1 class and guessed that Erykah Badu had Neptune on the ascendant on the spot.
   
   I could have sworn Tony Hawk had Neptune on his ascendant, but it turns out his Moon-Neptune conjunction in Pisces is trine his Scorpio rising. I had egg on my face because I attributed Neptune on the ascendant to folks not recognizing him, but telling him he looks like him. Adina Herzel has a great write up on the astrology of this.
   
   Anyways, I needed a chart example with Neptune rising, since my first one was bust. Within a few seconds Erykah was up on the screen. Her voice, her music, and her vibes scream Neptune to me, as well as her relationship to veganism (feeling the suffering of animals when eating meat). I’m not valorizing her, at all, but she lives on a different planet, with different rules, and we had a great discussion in class about how sometimes it’s great, and how it can also be harmful.
   

3. Back in lockdown days, I would practice locational astrology and different things I was learning late night with friends. It’s how other astrologers knew I was exceptionally talented at astrocartography, and it helped me realize how uniquely gifted I was. Lately, Adrienne Deeble of Tallawah Esoterics has been practicing geomancy on our phone calls and it’s reminded me of the playful curiosity of those days.
   
   Geomancy, an ancestral form of divination used by astrologers in ancient times, is using lines in the earth or through water droplets to divine. It’s very fun to do at the beach, and the last time Adrienne did it for me, a lady bug and a seashell popped up in the sand (auspicious omens).
   
   I’ve honestly been feeling bummed over money being *such* a thing right now because I would love to spend some time with her in LA to learn geomancy with her, but it will happen in time. I pulled cards for her last night with The Pasta Tarot.
